I think we can all agree that there are few things in our daily lives that are as frustrating as car repairs. Most repairs sneak up on us, and it’s important that we know whom to go to for help. While we focus on auto body work here at KW, we understand that finding a qualified, reasonable and trustworthy mechanic is crucial. This month on the blog we’re asking ourselves a few important questions before choosing a car mechanic.
Are they qualified?
A great mechanic should get it right the first time. It is vital that you do your homework before contacting him or her – look up online reviews and ratings. Google and Yelp are both excellent sources for accurate and honest reviews. Is your mechanic ASE-certified? The National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence, also known as ASE, has been certifying professionals since 1972. Their goal is to improve the quality of vehicle repair and service by testing aspiring professional automotive technicians. You probably wouldn’t let a non-certified doctor perform surgery on you, so why should it be different for your vehicle? We also recommend finding a mechanic that specializes in the make of your car. Those that focus on specific types of vehicles are far more likely to have the training and equipment to best repair your ride.
Are they trustworthy?
Is the mechanic forthcoming and honest upon meeting them for the first time? Are you treated like a “burden” when you first walk in? It’s important that your mechanic does not talk “down” to you during conversation. They should take as much time to listen to what you have to say as they do to talk.
Are they transparent?
Transparency is very important when it comes to choosing a mechanic. The right mechanic will be forthright with information, rather than trying to “hard sell” you. When he or she presents you with a list of repairs, do they recommend you get the service done immediately, or can you prioritize other repairs/financial obligations instead?
Do you feel safe?
This final question should sum things up. Do you think the service you received is what you wanted or needed? Do you feel safer in your vehicle post-repair? If you’re on the fence when attempting to answer either one of these questions – perhaps your search for the right mechanic is still afoot.
It’s important that you have a certified, trustworthy and reasonable mechanic to go to when those car repairs sneak up on you. Here at KW Auto Body, we’re committed to quality restoration and customer satisfaction no matter if the fixing is over or under the hood.
