There’s a plethora of car maintenance myths that you may have heard from friends, family or random car-fiends. While most of them are said to save you money or improve your car’s performance, some of them are outdated and this month we’re here to set the record straight.

WARMING YOUR CAR UP BEFORE DRIVING IS ESSENTIAL

In most climates, even if it feels colder than normal, warming up your vehicle is overrated. Newer vehicles actually “warm-up” quicker while driving than while sitting parked. For those of us who call Hawaii home, consider this myth debunked. If you live in a place where the temperatures drop below twenty degrees F, refer to your vehicle’s manual for cold-start driving recommendations.

PREMIUM FUEL IS BEST FOR ALL CARS

The prices differences at the pump might convince you that the most expensive gas must be best for your car. The truth is, high-end sports cars use premium as they are designed to use a specific mixture of air and fuel to operate. Most non-sport vehicles should stick to mid-regular 87 octane gas. To be certain of the fuel your car takes, check your vehicle’s manual.

DISH SOAP DOUBLES AS CAR SOAP

While dish soap works wonders on pots and pans, keep it away from your car. Dish soap is designed to cut through grease with ease which means it can also cut through car wax like a hot knife through a slab of butter. We highlysuggest using soaps purposed for protecting your car’s paint/wax job.

We hope this list has put your mind at ease. If you find yourself with other car questions and don’t know where to turn, give our professionals a call, we’d love to help!
