Our professionals here at KW Auto Body are all about being efficient while keeping things cost-effective. Below are 4 car hacks and DIYS to help keep your car fresh and clean – sometimes all you need is a couple of household items and a little creativity.

1.     CLEAN YOUR HEADLIGHTS

Overtime your car’s headlights tend to get dirty. Through the process of oxidation, they eventually start to look cloudy, foggy and sometimes yellow. With a hard bristled brush and some toothpaste, you can restore its former shine. We recommend scrubbing the cloudiest parts of your headlights in stern, circular motions,  and repeating those scrubbing and buffing motions until you’re happy with the headlight’s clarity.

2.     DIY AIR FRESHENER

Everybody loves a fresh-scented car. With just a few household items, you can create your own car freshener that’s promised to last drive after drive. First heat a cup of water with one tablespoon of salt. Mix in 2 packets of unflavored gelatin until fully dissolved. Remove mixture from the heat and immediately add to a recycled/clean mason jar. Add about 20 drops of your choice of essential oil to the jar. Let the mixture sit at room temperature until cool. Once cooled, poke holes in the lid and secure it to the mason jar.

3.     BUGS OFF THE BUMPER

Nobody likes bugs on their bumper, grill or windshield. Don’t fret – you can easily wipe them off with something you’d normally find in your laundry room! Use an unused dryer sheet to carefully scrub away any unwanted hitch-hikers. You may even add some WD-40 to loosen the areas with stubborn bugs.

4.     REMOVE DIRT, DUST AND CRUMBS

This car hack might be our favorite of all. Cupholders, gear shifters and air vents are all notorious for collecting dust, dirt and crumbs. While putty/slime is fun to play with, it doubles as a great tool for accessing those hard-to-reach crevices that feel impossible to clean. Putty fits into the awkward spaces and clings to any unwanted dirt, dust and crumbs with ease.

We hope you find these DIYs helpful, we love a good car hack here at KW Auto Body! If you need a little extra help on your car’s exterior, let us know. Like we said, we’re all about delivering quality without breaking the bank. Give us a call!
